Event: Red paper Clip Challenge

1 November 2008 – 23 November 2008

The Red Paper Clip story started with Kyle MacDonald in 2005 /6. He traded up from a red paper clip all the way to a house! We will challenge our FE students at our city centre site and our HE students at the Blenheim Walk site to take this challenge for Enterprise week.

Event: KS3 The Young Apprentice Club

1 November 2008 – 30 November 2008

KS3 students work in teams from September to Decemeber to build a mini business enterprise manufacturing and selling products to students at school. Any profits made from the sale of each teams products are donated to a charity of the teams choice.

Event: Flourishing Fivers

1 November 2008

An enterprising project launched by a local Hospice to encourage young people to become involved in charity work and raise money.

This activity will be launched with Year 8 students on Monday 17th November

Event: Improve you Environment

1 November 2008 – 30 November 2008

This project will be launched with Year 11 students and they will work on improving an aspect of their school environment with a budget of £5000. The successful project from the year group will be implemented.

Event: The 2009 London Enterprise Challenge (Some District Heats)

The London Enterprise Challenge is an innovative, fun competition for schools. The London Enterprise Challenge is an annual competition open to Year 10 students in schools across London, and meets the Government’s guidelines for enterprise learning in schools. These include areas such as innovation, enterprise thinking, financial understanding and team work. It's also a PDP day for teaching staff.

So what happens?

Event: 'Max the Cash'

1 November 2008 – 17 November 2008

Project aim: Each team is given £100 to use how they see fit to raise more money for Thames Hospicecare. The money is being donated by Mandeville Recruitment who supports Thames Hospicecare.

Project brief: - Aimed at Year 12 / 13 students

- First come first served, first 12 teams to apply (initially one team per school) across all secondary schools in East Berkshire

- Students will work in small teams (between 4 - 6 students)

Event: Enterprise Photographic Competition

1 November 2008 – 17 November 2008

A photographic competition which is open to students and staff based on the theme of sustainable business.

Event: Global Enterprise Challenge

1 November 2008 – 18 November 2008

College final of the Global Enterprise Challenge to find a team to represent the college at the Wales Final in March 2009

Event: 'Fayre' Selling

1 November 2008

Key Stage 4 and FE students in the school our going to be given £50 to set up a business which will sell produce or a service at the school Christmas fayre with a gobal issue e.g. environmentally friendly or showing equal opportunities. There will be an element of competition to this event and both classes will have advice from a local school (Westhaven) which has specialist status in enterprise and from a local bussiness advisor.

What Do We Have Planned? The SPECIAL NOVEMBER ISSUE of informnorth will focus on the wider enterprise and entrepreneurship agenda within the North East. Just now we are interested in helping our partners and other community based/business enterprise organisations raise awareness of their own USP's and objectives - at a strategic and community level - and cover key success stories and case studies etc.

What Exactly Do We Do?

Event: Sale of decorated bottles

1 November 2008

The pupils will paint and decorate bottles during the month of November. They will sell the bottles at the Christmas Fayre.

Event: Year 11 The Apprentice

1 November 2008 – 21 November 2008

A team of year 11 pupils are competing to become the year 11 Apprentice. They are carrying out a range of challenges which they started in September and which will finish during Enterprise Week

GOTT'S CHALLENGES! Why not make use of our resources for self led visits to the Mill?

We have developed a package for teachers and groups delivering enterprise education including teacher's notes and activity sheets. After visiting the museum the students must form a 'company' and are challenged to come up with an idea to develop the museum, it could be an activity to put on at the museum or a piece of merchandise to sell in the shop.

It's a chance to engage pupils in a real challenge, in a real context in a real-life organisation!

Event: Ideas Competition

1 November 2008 – 19 November 2008

A group of those with responsibility for enterprise at the University are collaborating to run an Ideas Competition. Students are encouraged to think of an idea for a business and enter this idea into the competition. A winner will be chosen from three categories of entries. The purpose of this is to encourage students to think of their own ideas and to allow the University to signpost them to the relevant support agencies.

Event: Snack Shack

1 November 2008

Year 5/6 pupils will run a Tuck shop to sell healthy snacks to pupils at playtime. They will be responsible for: planning, costing products and the daily running and promotion of the shop. The pupils will make their own decisions about how the profits will be used.

Event: Comic and collectors cards exchange

1 November 2008

A group of year 5/6 pupils have proposed a comic and collectors cards exchange. Pupils will be able to swap comics and magazines or buy them at playtime.They have written their own business plan and will present their ideas on a powerpoint presentation to KS2 pupils prior to the launch of their business.

ifs Student Investor

The Student Investor is the premier economics/business competition in the UK. Hugely successful over the last 13 years, it is aimed primarily at 14-19 year-olds to introduce them to the heady world of the stock market, investments and business economics. During the 2007 challenge approximately 30,000 students took part from 900 schools and colleges.

Event: Scrapheap Challenge

The Scrapheap Challenge Project for Explorer Scouts (aged 14 - 18) , is aimed at promoting a culture of enterprise amongst the members (building upon the experiences in 2007) - the project will see two teams design and construct racing pedalos - including developing suitable designs, sourcing potential parts and components, fundraising for appropriate items / resources, the construction of the pedalos, completing the challenge race and feeding back to younger members on experiences - during October and November 2008.
